2023 Elections: We’ll educate voters about candidates – CAN

The Christian Association of Nigeria (CAN), on Monday, declared the mobilization of the electorate ahead of the 2023 general elections. This, the organization said would determine who will be the country’s political leaders.

Rt. Rev. Stephen Adegbite, Chairman, Lagos State Chapter of CAN, revealed this in an interview to announce the 2022 Inter-Denominational Divine Service.

The Rev. claimed that voter education and mobilization were critical to deepening democratic culture in the polity. He also added that the development would help the country achieve peace, unity, and economic progress.

Adegbeti, who lamented the country’s high rate of economic hardship, insecurity, said the age of imposing inept leadership on the people has ended.

He stated that CAN, as one of the people’s major voices, has begun mobilizing the public ahead of the elections through the ongoing voter registration drive.

“Our local government representatives are out in the field educating people about the need to update their voter cards in order to participate in the elections in 2023 that will elect better leaders for the country.”

“At the present, the effort is focused on voter registration mobilization”.

“After that, mobilization will focus on participation. We would be choosing a candidate to vote for. We would also be securing votes after the election to guarantee that people’s ballots are counted.”

“This is a democratic society, and we must participate in the process of electing leaders rather than rulers.”

“The era of cabals imposing rulers on the people has come to an end.”

“As a people, we must take advantage of the democratic system of governance’s periodic transition to enhance our individual and national lives by electing competent leaders of our choosing,” he added.
