2023 Election: Northern Elders pays visit to Obasanjo in Ogun

The Northern Elders Forum led by Prof. Ango Abdullahi paid the Former Nigeria President, Olusegun Obasanjo a visit at his hometown.

Nastura Ashir Shariff, Chairman of the CNG Board of Trustees (BOT); and Aminu Adam, Director of CNG Action and Mobilization, were among the Northern elders who attended the visit.

Prof Abdullahi acknowledged to reporters after the closed-door meeting that their conversations focused on the status of the country. He also noted that the group had a brief discussion on the 2023 general elections in Nigeria.

Referring to Obasanjo, Prof Abdullahi said; “I don’t want to be away from him for months or years without seeing him, especially at this time,” he explained.

“So, I’m paying him a visit to say hello and get an update on how I feel about the country. We also gave him an update on how we feel about the country. We exchanged notes and came to an agreement on a few points.”

Abdullahi remarked that Nigeria’s security concerns have never been as severe as they are now, and noted that Chief Obasanjo agrees with them on the issues expressed.

When asked if he and Obasanjo were on the same page the prof replied with a yes. The prof went on to add, “We are on the same page, and Insha Allah things shall be fine.”

He went on to say that as the 2023 elections approach, there is a need to strategize, which is why the conference is being held.

“We’ve been having problems, and we’ve been talking about it.” You work in the media, so you’re aware of what we’ve been saying about the country’s position. Things aren’t good enough, and as we approach 2023, we want to be planning for the nation’s benefit,” Abdullahi said.
