2023: Wike explains how PDP might reclaim power

Governor of Rivers State Nyesom Wike has advised PDP leaders that the party cannot afford to lose out on the chance to return to power in 2023 that Nigerians have given it.

Wike also stated that the PDP governors and other stakeholders would work tirelessly to ensure that the party produces the next Nigerian president in 2023, urging those fanning the flames of discord over the issue of presidential ticket zoning and governors’ division to focus their efforts on rebuilding and strengthening the party.

Governor Wike made the remarks during a courtesy call on Bayelsa state Governor Douye Diri at Government House in Yenagoa on Monday.

“Nigerians are waiting impatiently for PDP to rescue the nation from the horrible governance the governing All Progressives Congress (APC) has imposed on them,” Wike’s Special Assistant on Media, Kelvin Ebiri, said in a statement.

“I’ve come to let him know that as PDP members, we must band together to grow the party,” Wike stated. Nobody can run for president without the support of the party. There must be a celebration.

“So, before we speak about who will be the presidential candidate, everyone needs to work together and bring the party together.”

“We cannot afford to lose this chance that Nigerians are offering the PDP to take over the government in 2023, As a group, everyone must work together. We also need to work together as governors. We wouldn’t have had the finest convention we’ve ever had as a party if we didn’t work together.” He spoke.

Governor Wike cautioned that if the party’s governors and members did not come together, nominating a suitable presidential candidate would be impossible.

According to him, the PDP must take advantage of the APC’s growing problem to construct a more formidable party capable of unseating the APC-led federal government.

Governor Wike advised the governor of Bayelsa state to concentrate on giving democratic dividends to the people of the state, since this is the most effective method for silencing the opposition in the state.
