Alleged N2.9bn fraud: Okorocha completely escapes charge – EFCC

On Tuesday, the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) charged Rochas Okorocha, the former governor of Imo State, with evading fraud service on the 17 charges it had filed against him and five others.

The anti-graft bureau told the Federal High Court in Abuja that multiple attempts to serve the charge on Okorocha were unsuccessful.

Cosmos Ugwu, the Commission’s lawyer, bemoaned the fact that while the other defendants were in court for their scheduled arraignment, the former governor remained unavailable.

“My lord, normally, this issue is for arraignment, but the first defendant is not here.”

“We attempted to serve the charge on the first defendant multiple times but were unable.

“We’ve served all of the other defendants.”

“As a result, we are requesting a date so that we may serve the first defendant,” the prosecutor continued.

The other defendant, Oba Maduabuchi, did not object to the EFCC’s request for an adjournment (SAN).

As a result, the trial Justice Inyang Ekwo postponed the case till March 28.

Okorocha, who served as governor of Imo from 2011 to 2019, was accused in court of his alleged involvement in a N2.9 billion scam.
