The headquarters of the Idemili North Local Government Area in Ogidi, Anambra, was set ablaze in the early hours of Monday, according to police.

In a phone chat with newsmen on Monday in Awka, DSP Tochukwu Ikenga, Public Relations Officer (PPRO) of the Anambra State Police Command, verified the event.

Arsonists struck the council’s offices at 2 a.m. today, he added.

According to Ikenga, the indigenous and security officers worked together to resist the perpetrators from setting the secretariat ablaze.

“At this time, security officers are still on scene, and we have the situation under control.”

Ikenga also added, “I must add that the indigenous were helpful in dealing with the incident, as some of them aided security officers in repelling the invaders.”
