The allowances of 630 ad hoc personnel will be withdrawn by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) for failing to return materials and gadgets used during the Anambra gubernatorial election.

Chukwuma Soludo, a former governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN), was proclaimed the winner of the election on November 6, 2021.

Nkwachukwu Orji, the Anambra resident electoral commissioner (REC), stated during a press conference on Tuesday that some of the supplies included Bimodal Voter Accreditation System (BVAS) devices, battery chargers, and cables.

“The commission has made the regrettable decision to suspend the allowances of workers implicated in the act, pending the return of the documents to the commission,” he said, according to NAN.

Although some of the ad hoc personnel had begun returning the things, the REC decided to stop payment of their allowances until all of the supplies were returned.

Speaking on the state’s continuous voter registration (CVR), Orji stated that the commission has lifted the suspension, adding that the exercise will take place at the commission’s headquarters in Awka as well as the state’s 21 LGAs.

Orji advised eligible voters to register and get permanent voter identification cards (PVCs).

Those who registered before September 15, 2021, can pick up their PVCs at the INEC headquarters, he added.
