Anambra NSCDC moves to end fuel hoarding, raises prices

The Anambra State Command of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC), has stated that it will apprehend petrol station owners taking advantage of the artificial scarcity of fuel to hike the price.

The State Commandant of NSCDC, Mr. Evaristus Chimezie Obiyo, said the move was meant to curb worsening the situation of fuel scarcity in the state.

The state commandant stated this after a monitoring tour to filling stations in the state, adding that the tour was geared at fighting against filling stations dispensing fuel above the recommended pump price of ₦165.

Obiyo advised members of the public to provide reliable information to the command about rogue marketers’ actions, stressing that the NSCDC was ready to guarantee that filling stations sold at the government-approved price.

“We are prepared to oppose any fuel price hikes or petrol stockpiles in the state. We’re going around the state inspecting every gas station,” Obiyo said.

The surveillance squad, led by the Head of Anti Vandalism Squad, Assistant Commandant Dennis Reuben, covered various filling stations inside the Awka city, according to DSC Edwin Okadigbo, the Public Relations Officer of the NSCDC’s Anambra State Command.

“The purpose of the inspection is to guarantee that the item is sold at the permitted price, to warn them against raising the price, and to ensure that the product is sold to motorists rather than being hoarded.”

“In addition to the outrageous price increases in some of the filling stations examined, the crew noted that certain filling stations were under-dispensing and hoarding merchandise,” he stated.
