President Muhammadu Buhari conveyed a letter of congratulations to President Umaro Sissoco Embalo of Guinea-Bissau for surviving the attempted coup in his nation on Tuesday.
On Tuesday, sustained gunfire was reported near the seat of government in Bissau, the capital of Guinea-Bissau, a small West African country prone to coups. ECOWAS condemned the attempted coup.
“I have talked with President Umaro Sissoco Embalo of Guinea-Bissau,” Buhari said on his official Facebook page on Wednesday. I was relieved to learn from him that the situation has been stabilized and that all is good in the country; normalcy has been entirely restored.
“I congratulated him on surviving the coup attempt and praised the country’s loyal troops for their display of patriotism, which resulted in a remarkable triumph over disloyal military elements.”
“Any attempt to overthrow Guinea Bissau’s established constitutional order is completely unacceptable. The government and people of Nigeria would continue to show their support for Guinea-Bissauans and the Embalo administration.”
