Federal highways in Ogun may be rebuilt by NNPC, Others – Buhari

President Muhammadu Buhari (retd.) on Thursday, revealed that the Federal Government is considering providing clearance for the Nigerian National Petroleum Company and other firms to rehabilitate several federal highways in Ogun State under a tax credit scheme.

This was revealed by Buhari during his visit to the state for the inauguration of five significant projects spearheaded by Governor Dapo Abiodun’s administration.

He noted that the Lagos-Ota-Abeokuta Expressway, the Sango Otta-Idi-Iroko Expressway, and the Sagamu-Ogijo route are among the highways being evaluated for reconstruction.

The projects inaugurated included the 42km Sagamu Interchange-Abeokuta dual carriageway, which was renamed as ‘President Muhammadu Buhari Expressway; the 14km Ijebu-Ode-Epe Expressway.

Responding to the request of Abiodun for a special status for FG Infrastructural Funding, particularly for roads, Buhari told the press that Ogun State has more federal roads than any other state in the country.

He further said the Federal Government was considering giving the NNPC permission to use the tax credit system to rebuild the Sagamu-Ogijo route.

He stated that the federal government would begin to pay attention to all federal roads in the state and that two major federal roads are currently under construction, that is the Sagamu-Benin Expressway and the Lagos-Ibadan Expressway and that they would be completed by the end of 2022.

The President hailed the governor on the 14km Ijebu Ode-Mojoda-Epe Road, saying it had been reconstructed into a modern expressway by the state government.

He described Abiodun as the ‘‘performing governor of Nigeria’s Gateway State” and as a worthy example of ‘‘promises made, promises kept.”
