Health Benefits of Utazi leaf

Utazi leaves are used for a variety of purposes, including food preparation and herbal medicine.  

The Utazi leaf’s scientific name is Gongronema latifolium. It has a somewhat bitter, spicy flavor that improves the flavor of the meal it is prepared with.

The name Utazi is commonly used in the South-Eastern part of Nigeria. In the South-West, the Yorubas call it Arokeke.

The antioxidants included in the plant are powerful at removing free radicals from the body. Free radicals have the potential to harm cells and cause them to become malignant. Utazi aids in the prevention of cancer by removing malignant cells.  

Liver Defense  

Utazi leaf also protects the liver by purifying it and removing everything poisonous or destructive to it. It prevents drunkenness or intoxication by counteracting the effects of alcohol on the liver.  

Treatment Following Pregnancy

Utazi to used by nursing mothers to counteract the consequences of pregnancy, such as shrinking the stomach after birth, cleaning the uterus, and assisting with weight loss. It is also used to rejuvenate the body following pregnancy. 

Blood Sugar and Cholesterol

Taking Utazi also helps control one’s cholesterol levels and lowers blood sugar levels. Utazi has been proven to lower blood glucose levels, assisting diabetics in better managing their condition.

Utazi leaf is high in antioxidants, which are contained in saponins and flavonoids in the plant and eliminate toxins from the body including free radicals that can harm cells.

Utazi is also used to treat pain in many regions of the body. Rubbing Utazi leaves on wounds and bruises can help to significantly reduce pain and stop bleeding from the injury. 

Anti-inflammatory Effects  

Utazi leaf has properties that may help in the treatment and control of inflammation in humans. As a result, it’s utilized to treat arthritis and other inflammatory conditions. 

 

Enhance Digestion   

Eating Utazi also aids in the maintenance of a healthy eating habits by making it simpler to digest meals without experiencing constipation or stomach soreness.  

Malaria Therapy  
Utazi has traditionally been used to treat malaria. 
It is used alone or in combination with other plants to create powerful herb that eliminates malaria from the body and assists in health restoration.
Treatment for Cough

Utazi was also beneficial in the treatment of cough and cough-like symptoms. The juice is extracted directly from the leaves and, when consumed, provides some relief from the cough. This method is also utilized in the treatment of asthma.
