Katsina Schedules LG Polls for April 11

The Katsina State Independent Electoral Commission (KTSIEC) has chosen April 11 for the local government elections, after six years.

Alhaji Ibrahim Bako, the commission’s Chairman, said this at a news conference in Katsina on Tuesday.

“With this notification, all stakeholders, notably political parties, should be aware that only candidates who are formally sponsored by a political party will be considered to run in the election.”

“Stakeholders are strongly recommended to follow and comply with the state’s laws and standards governing the conduct of local government councils.”

“These election instructions and schedule will be delivered to everybody and sundries in due time.”

Bako stated that political rallies and campaigns will be held in compliance with the state’s established norms, regulations, and guidelines for smooth local government elections.

In response to a query on what would happen to individuals displaced by insecurity in the state, the chairman declared that all necessary steps, would be taken to guarantee everyone had the opportunity to exercise their right to vote.

In response, Alhaji Salisu Majigiri, the state chairman of the opposition Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), urged the publication of a calendar for political parties to prepare properly, including primary elections.

“The KTSIEC should also come out and say if the elections will be conducted electronically or manually. We don’t want to be in a scenario where every question is being sent back to the commission,” he added.
