Indorama Petrochemical Company, Eleme, Rivers State, announced that the consistent production of fertilizer saves the company and other firms in the country around N7 billion each year.
Dr. Jossy Nkwocha, Indorama’s Head of Corporate Communications, revealed this during a facilities tour of its petrochemicals complex with media, declaring the company has made significant contributions to the nation’s agricultural growth through regular production of plant food.
He further revealed that Indorama supplies fertilizers to over 32 million farmers in the country each year, and that domestic production of plant food had exceeded the N7 billion paid yearly on fertilizer imports.
According to the business’s representative, the company produces 3,000,000 metric tons of fertilizer each year and supplies millions of farmers.
“Indorama supplies fertilizer to around 32 million farms. We have also informed you that we provide UREA to blending plants, each of which employs around 100 people. As a result, Indorama is making a significant contribution to employment creation”.
“Our main products are petrochemicals and fertilizers. Petrochemicals are the driving force behind Nigeria’s development”.
“In terms of fertilizer, Nigeria used to import roughly $7 billion worth of fertilizer each year. Today, the fertilizer comes from Indorama and other firms that create fertilizer, but Indorama controls more than 95 percent of the fertilizer industry in Nigeria.”
Meanwhile, the corporation has refuted claims that their plant emits soot, a form of air pollution in the state.
Dr. Nkwocha, who asserted that the company’s facilities do not release soot, stated that Indorama maintains a closed system that prohibits incomplete combustion.
According to him, the corporation has taken a proactive approach to issues that may have an impact on the environment and its output.
