The state Commissioner for Works, Mr Marcel Ifejiofor has announced that the Nigerian Civil Aviation Authority (NCAA) has issued authority to the Anambra government to open the State’s International Cargo and Passenger Airport for commercial operations with effect from 2nd December 2021.
In a letter addressed to the Governor of Anambra state, the aviation authority stated it had acquired security approval from appropriate security authorities for the opening of the airport.
The authority also cited that the lack of a positive security clearance was the basis for the authority’s refusal to approve the airport’s opening on October 30, 2021, as the state administration had earlier planned.
The Commissioner lauded Governor Obiano’s efforts, saying that he never relented, even while on vacation, to ensure that the Anambra airport is operational in time for the Christmas 2021 mass homecoming of Ndi Anambra diaspora residents and other guests.
“With this NCAA permission, airlines previously allowed to operate at the Anambra airport by the competent authorities, such as Air peace, Ibom Air, United Nigeria, and others, are anticipated to begin scheduling flights into and out of the airport immediately,” he added.
