New Anambra airport had 142 flights, 3,865 passengers in one month

After one month of operation, the newly opened Anambra Cargo Airport has registered 142 flights with 3,865 people arriving and departing.

Last December, the airport began offering commercial services.

Mr Marcel Ifejiofor, the Anambra Commissioner for Works, revealed the information in a Sunday interview with the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) in Umueri, near Awka, where the airport is located.

Although the airport’s flight and passenger numbers exceeded expectations when compared to its peers, he highlighted that if more airlines used the airport, the numbers would have been much higher.

Only Air Peace and United Nigeria Airlines are now arriving and taking off at the Anambra Airport, according to NAN.

Ifejiofor, who is also the chairman of the Anambra State Airport Project Committee, said the airport helped to reduce passenger traffic during the holiday season.

Passengers who would have flown into Asaba and Enugu airports instead landed at the Anambra airport, he added.

“Anambra Airport is a hub; you can reach wherever in Nigeria from Anambra State.” In terms of things that will take place here, we are only scratching the surface.”

Mr. Martin Nwafor, the Managing Director of the Anambra Airport Management Authority, also spoke, saying that the airport’s service quality has continued to improve.

All aviation regulatory authorities, including the Nigerian Civil Aviation Authority, the Nigerian Meteorological Agency, and the Federal Airports Authority of Nigeria, among others, are now based at the airport, according to Nwafor.

He said that there had been no problems since the airport’s opening and that the administration was ready to deal with problems when they occurred.

Workers dispatched to the airport, according to Nwafor, were trained and given enough instruction on how to do their duties. (NAN)
