Nigeria’s Minister of Information and Culture, Lai Mohammed, claimed the government is exploring additional steps to control social media because of ritual murderers.

This was said by Lai Mohammed in an interview on Monday.

He said that the perpetrators of ritual killings used social media as a source of motivation for their crimes.

The National Orientation Agency will lead the sensitization campaign; while the National Film and Video Censors Board will screen films that promote the act, he said.

Furthermore, Lai Mohammed blamed Nigerians for China’s decision to discontinue lending to the country.

“When we first started, we found the Chinese government to be more willing. Their terms were much more acceptable, as well as the speed with which the loans were completed and the speed with which we began working,” he explained.

“Unfortunately, I recall the Minister of Transportation moaning somewhere down the line that the whole world takes its cues from what Nigerians have to say about their government. I believe the news that the country would soon become bankrupt caused them to halt. Yes, we won’t be able to secure the financing we had hoped for.”

The minister stated that the President is currently considering the modified election bill before reaching a final decision.

The issue of reports that the government will soon go bankrupt, I think, made them stop. Yes, we’re not getting the loans again as we would have wanted.”

On the reworked electoral bill, the minister said the President is still studying the bill before making a final decision.
