Nigeria extends deadline for NIN Registration to March 31

As the focus switches to distant communities, schools, and health centres, the Nigerian government has once again extended the deadline of NIN registration for mobile phone customers with their service provider. Following “a request by stakeholders, including citizens, legal residents, and Nigerians in the diaspora,” the deadline has been pushed out from December 31, 2021 to March 31, 2022.

The National Identification Number (NIN) and SIM registration effort, which began in December 2020 and has been extended many times, is intended to boost security in the West African country.

To make the procedure easier for qualified citizens and residents to get and link their NINs, telecommunications providers and other enrolling agents have created centers around the nation.

According to TeleGeography’s GlobalComms Database, Nigeria had slightly over 185 million users by the end of September 2021, down from nearly 200 million nine months earlier owing to the continuing registration scheme.

According to the government, by the end of 2021, there were 71 million unique NIN enrolments, with an average of three to four SIMs per NIN.
