Ohanaeze creates group to plan for presidency in 2023

The Ohanaeze Ndigbo Worldwide has organized a nationwide action group in order to elect a President of South East extraction in the general elections next year.

The committee, led by George Obiozor, President General of the apex Igbo socio-cultural organization, with Amb. Okey Emuchay as Secretary General, will use persuasion to reach out to key political players across the country, as well as other essential stakeholders and leaders.

This was part of the communiqué published by Ohanaeze’s National Executive Committee (NEC) on Wednesday night in Enugu.

Obiozor told reporters that they would soon disclose the membership of the “persuasion squad that will recognize those who are critical in Nigeria, including our own people. They will also meet with our individuals here who are running for President. The squad is apolitical and neutral. We shall endeavor to persuade every one of the importance of the South East producing the next president.”

He identified a President of South East origin as a concept whose time had come, and reminded Nigerians and Nigeria that at the age of roughly 62, the country needed introspective and retrospective thinking in order to appraise the trip so far as a nation or as a country.

Obiozor cautioned that Nigeria is in the midst of a coordinated national crisis that might lead to the country’s eventual collapse or fragmentation. He reiterated that the Igbo were neither secessionist or separatists, and that they were ready for and deserved the presidency since it was both politically and ethically legitimate.
