Okorocha requests Buhari’s assistance in stopping EFCC from prosecuting him

Rochas Okorocha, a presidential candidate and former governor of Imo State, has requested President Muhammadu Buhari for assistance in persuading the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) to stop harassing him.

Okorocha, who was in the Presidential Villa on Thursday, stated that the EFCC is prohibited from prosecuting him due to an existing court order, and that President Buhari should warn the anti-graft agency not to exceed the line.

The EFCC allegedly filed a 17-count fraud prosecution against Okorocha at the Federal High Court in Abuja shortly after he officially stated his desire to run for president.

In the accusations, the former Governor was said to have embezzled N2.4 billion in public monies through connivance with several persons and companies.

The former governor, who now represents Imo West Senatorial District in the 9th Senate, also wants his international passport released by the EFCC.

He said he decided to meet with Buhari to ask him to intercede on his behalf because he wanted justice to be served in his case.

According to Okorocha, it is Buhari’s job as President of Nigeria to guarantee that justice is done to all Nigerians, especially in this case.

He also accused Imo State Governor Hope Uzodinma of being behind security breaches in his state, alleging that he was able to properly handle the security situation throughout his 8-year stint as Governor.

“Any security breaches you witness in Imo State, whether it’s IPOB or ordinary crimes, should be put on the current administration because it’s a leadership failure,” he said.
