Sit-at-home: Many injured in Imo as residents flee for their lives

Many Imo citizens were hurt in a rush in the capital city of Owerri following reports of gunmen assaults on Monday.

As bus drivers and Okada riders abandoned their vehicles and took to their heels for safety, residents frantically locked stores.

However, Some enforcers of the sit-at-home order were hitting citizens and chasing them out of their shops, according to reports.

The scenario, it was learned, had caused concern among people who had managed to get out to the market to buy a few groceries for their families.

In the following chaos, they hastily abandoned their shopping and rushed to their heels.

The assault rumor prompted the immediate closure of Eke Ukwu Owerri, the Relief market, and stores around the capital.

However, Traders in Owerri, Ekeukwu, and its submarkets abandoned their wares, while others promptly locked their stores to avoid being assaulted.

Several people also injured while fleeing for safety, and others’ property ruined.

Some traders told the Newsmen that they heard hoodlums driving customers away and that they decided to run for our precious lives.

However, Imo Police spokesman CSP Michael Abatham said that there was no chaos in the state.

“The State is peaceful; there is also no chaos or confusion everywhere. He advised people to go about their legitimate businesses.”
