Stakeholders sue WAEC board over price, penalty increases

Several private school owners and parents have raised concerns about the decision to raise examination fees by the WAEC board. Some of the concerns heard were that decisions were not communicated on time.

WAEC board had earlier announced a ₦5,000 penalty fee for late registration.

The National Association of Proprietors of Private Schools (NAPPS) Lagos had publicly petitioned for the waiver of the penalty costs. NAPPS claimed the registration process was a setback as most parents are unprepared for the fee increase.

A parent, Mrs Bolade Giwa-Amu, told the media that the majority of parents are unable to remit the actual fee. This she said is due to the economic inflation. She added that the new event would also deprive most students of taking the examinations this year.”
