ASUU Strikes: Students demands consensus Over Incessant Strikes

In reaction to the recent ASUU strike, Students of the University of Jos have urged the Federal Government and the Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU) to reach an agreement to halt the university ASUU strikes.

The request was made on a Friday, in an interview with the Nigerian News Agency (NAN) in Jos.

According to NAN, ASUU issued a one-month warning strike on Monday to press its demands after suspending a nine-month walkout in December last year and several ASUU strikes in the past.

ASUU had argued that the Federal Government had failed to follow through on a 2009 agreement.

The students demanded that the two bodies return to the negotiation table in order to find a long-term solution to the problem.

Recall that ASUU declared a one-month nationwide strike following the union’s National Executive Council (NEC) meeting in Lagos, which was dubbed ‘NEC for NEC.’

On Monday, February 14th, 2022, the academic union announced its decision at a press conference held by ASUU President, Prof. Emmanuel Osodeke.

Sani reacted to the news on Twitter, saying that while most Nigerian students are unaware of NANS (National Association of Nigerian Students), they are aware of ASUU.

In other developments, the Academic Staff Union of Universities has deemed the professorship of Isa Pantami, Minister of Communications and Digital Economy, to be unconstitutional.
