Tesla Model Y; Reviews, Comparisons and Competition in 2022

Tesla Model Y: The most recent Tesla

As one of the biggest names, if not the biggest, in electric vehicles, Tesla has grown since the original Roadster came out over a decade ago. Many consumers have dreamed of owning a Tesla of their own, like the Model Y for example. Once you’ve made your purchase, however, it’s important to keep your Tesla clean of the elements. This is where Tesloid’s new 3D Extreme Performance mats come into play to protect your Model Y and other Tesla models. We also have a coupon code below for a 10% discount on the entire order.

Elon Musk said Tesla may stop taking orders on some models of its popular electric vehicles due to long delivery times. There is currently a rush to order electric vehicles as technology gains momentum, both naturally, as it becomes more mainstream, and, in the short term, more directly through rising gas prices.

For Tesla, we have previously reported that this has resulted in a significant increase in the order rate in several regions of the United States. In March, this resulted in many Tesla models being sold out through 2023 in the United States. This is despite numerous price increases across Tesla’s entire range over the past couple of years.

The Tesla Model Y Demand Now

Tesla is also considering to stop taking orders on some models. CEO Elon Musk said during an interview at the FT Future of Cars conference:

“Demand is now exceeding production to a ridiculous degree. We are actually probably going to limit or just stop taking orders for anything beyond a certain period of time because some of the timing (for delivery of new orders) is more than a year away.”

Tesla has launched the Model Y Standard Range AWD starting at $60,000 and its available for order. It comes with a few upgrades.

The comment comes as Tesla updated several delivery timelines for some of its most popular vehicles in the United States. A new order for a base Model Y now shows a delivery timeframe between February 2023 and May 2023. More expensive versions of the vehicle, such as the Model Y Performance, get much faster delivery times from July to September 2022.

Over the past year, Tesla has also started offering faster turnaround times by adding some options on certain trim levels. For example, the base Model Y (long-haul AWD) gets a faster delivery timeframe from November 2022 to February 2023 when you add the larger 20-inch wheels, which cost $ 2,000 more. Model 3 is also still popular, but delivery times are more reasonable than Model Y.

How long does it take to charge Model Y?

The charging time of the Tesla Model Y depends on the method used. Connecting to a 120-volt household power outlet will add 2 to 3 miles of range per hour. This is referred to as a level 1 charge and is useful for emergency use, but is not a practical long-term option. When at home, it is best to use a 240-volt outlet or Tesla wall connector installed. These Tier 2 charging methods can add 30 to 40 miles of range per hour.

The quickest way to charge Model Y is to connect it to a Tesla Supercharger station. These fast chargers can provide around 160 miles of range in 15 minutes. That said, boost rates can vary depending on things like ambient temperature and battery capacity.

Performance Specifications

Being a cheaper version of the Model X and a more spacious version of the Model 3, Tesla’s Model Y is somewhere in between in terms of both price and performance. As the latest Tesla model available, Model Y was the first to feature the Tesla heat pump in place of the electric resistor for cabin heating and battery preconditioning.

The heat pump has since been integrated into Tesla’s other models, along with other features such as chrome trims.

Currently, Model Y is available in two dual-engine versions, AWD: Long Range and Performance. Both trims are powered by a 75 kWh battery pack.

The long-range Model Y can travel an EPA-rated 326 miles on a single charge, reaching a top speed of 135 mph. All while traveling from 0 to 60 mph in 4.8 seconds.

Tesla’s Performance Model Y offers a smaller EPA range of 303 miles, but can reach a top speed of 155 mph and can travel from 0 to 60 mph in 3.5 seconds.

Recently, there are rumors of a Model Y with a range of 400 miles after Tesla filed for new versions of the electric vehicle with the Chinese government. However, these rumors are exaggerated.

How much does a Tesla Model Y cost?

When learning about Model Y or any of the models currently available, a common question is: how much is this Tesla? And for good reason.

Prices vary depending on the trim chosen, as well as a number of add-ons such as the aforementioned towbar.

Note: Tesla’s prices are perpetually fluctuating, but all prices are accurate at the time of publication and do not include destination fees, taxes, or federal tax refunds.

The long-range Model Y price starts at $ 54,990 and can go as high as $ 73,990 with all add-ons available. This includes red paint, white interior, 20 ″ induction wheels, tow hitch, seven seats and full autonomous driving capability (FSD).

The Performance Model Y starts at $ 61,990 for the barebones version and can go up to $ 75,990 including the previously mentioned add-ons and 21 “Überturbine wheels.

Note: This version only comes with five seats.

Tesla Model Y against the competition

Tesla Model Y versus Tesla Model 3

The Tesla Model 3 sedan has a lot in common with the Model Y SUV, from its all-electric powertrain and advanced safety features to the spartan interior and huge infotainment touchscreen. Both vehicles convince with rapid acceleration, handling and over 300 miles of range. The main differences concern the price and practicality. The base price of the Model 3 is a whopping $ 14,000 less than the Model Y. On the other hand, the Model Y’s rear hatch makes it easy to carry bulky loads. Model Y can also carry two extra passengers via the optional third row.

Tesla Model Y versus Ford Mustang Mach-E

The Ford Mustang Mach-E is one of the first electric cars to truly rival the Model Y. The Mach-E is energetic and fun to drive and is well-equipped with standard features, including some Tesla doesn’t offer, such as Apple CarPlay and Android Auto. Its infotainment system is easier to use and the interior has a high-end look and feel. The starting price of the Mach-E is also around $ 16,000 less than the Model Y. The trade-off? Ford’s maximum range is approximately 25 miles below Tesla’s claimed range. It also can’t load as fast as the Model Y and doesn’t offer third-row seating.
