The Institute elects the first-ever female president

Mrs. Fiona Ahimie has been elected as the first female senior officer of the Chartered Institute of Stockbrokers (CIS), breaking a 30-year pattern of male-dominated elevated positions.

According to a statement from the institution, Ahimie won a hotly contested election to become the 2nd Vice President, a position that puts her in line to become the first female president in four years if she wins the public confirmatory vote.

Ahimie, the current Managing Director of FBNQuest Securities, brings almost a decade of industry expertise to the table, encompassing a wide range of operational and administrative duties at top-tier financial institutions.

Ahimie will also work closely with the President, Mr. Oluwole Adeosun, the 1st Vice President, Mr. Oluropo Dada, and the Registrar and Chief Executive, Mr. Josiah Akerewusi, as the 2nd Vice President.

Ahimie is a Fellow of the Chartered Institute of Stockbrokers and is a chartered stockbroker and chartered accountant. She also possesses an MBA from the famous Pan Atlantic University (Lagos Business School) as well as a Diploma from the IESE Business School in Spain.

Ahimie started his career in investment banking at Stanbic IBTC Stockbrokers. She became the Head of Sales Trading and a member of the International/Local Institutional Client Sales Team at FBNQuest Capital (previously FBN Capital) in 2014.

In May 2015, she was also the Managing Director of African Alliance Securities Nigeria for African Alliance, a Pan African Investment Banking Group, where she was responsible for growing the trading market share, current customer base, and international/local transaction flow.

However, She later joined FBNQuest Securities in October 2016 as the head of the Equities Brokerage function, where she was tasked with growing the firm’s clientele base both locally and globally, as well as facilitating transaction flow to increase market share, earning the firm a spot on the top 5 securities league table in 2018.

Fiona Ahimie is a member of the National Association of Securities Dealers of Nigeria’s (NASD) audit committee and a council member of the Chartered Institute of Stockbrokers of Nigeria.

Fiona is also a member of the Purple Money Microfinance Bank board of directors and the Lagos Business School’s Curriculum Management and Learning Committee. Among other things, Ahimie is also a member of the Institute of Chartered Accountants of Nigeria (ICAN).
