Anambra CP orders enforcement of suspension of toll collections

The Commissioner of Police in Anambra, Mr Echeng Echeng, has ordered a total suspension of all toll collections in the Anambra with immediate effect.

On Sunday, Echeng delivered the order during a meeting in Awka with the Command’s Heads of Tactical Units, Divisional Police Officers, and Heads of Departments.

Before his inauguration, Gov. Soludo stated that as part of his administration’s goal to support local companies, he would exclusively employ Innoson cars made in Anambra State as official government vehicles.

In his inauguration address on Thursday, Gov. Chukwuma Soludo announced the suspension of all tolls and a prohibition on unlawful collection on the highways and in motor parks across the State.

Charles Chukwuma Soludo (CFR) is a Nigerian politician and economics professor and the fifth serving democratic Governor of Anambra State.

All previous revenue collection contracts have been cancelled, according to Soludo, until a new template that addresses leaks is available in a month.

Despite the governor’s order, reports indicate that some young people in Awka’s capital city have continued to collect tolls from tricycle and shuttle bus operators; those who refuse to pay have been physically assaulted by touts.

Echeng instructed the authorities to vigorously enforce the prohibition on touting and the activities of self-proclaimed revenue collectors in the State.

“All unscrupulous elements who indulge in touting and other illicit conduct have been advised to stop immediately, as the Command, under my supervision, has dispatched officers around the state in coordination with leaders of sister agencies.”

“Anyone who disobeys this order will be arrested and prosecuted.”

“We reiterate the Command’s commitment to crime prevention and law and order restoration, and we urge all law-abiding inhabitants of the State to remain cautious and security conscious at all times.”

“All suspicious movements should be reported to the police. In the event of an emergency, dial 112 or 07039194332 for an urgent reaction.” he urged.
