Government of Canada issues travels warnings to 7 countries

Although Canada travel restrictions were loosened, this does not mean that Canadians may go wherever they choose, at least not for the time being.

The Government of Canada has issued a number of travel advisories for Canadians to heed, advising them to a number of countries that they should avoid at all costs or visit with extreme caution.

With risks such as violence, petty crime, terrorism, and civil unrest, to mention a few, it’s a good idea to double-check the current worldwide travel advisory status of various nations before scheduling your vacation.

So, if you’re planning a trip, the feds advise avoiding these seven countries for the time being.

China

The Canadian government has issued a travel warning for China as of May 17, 2022, advising Canadians who go to China to “exercise a high degree of care.”

The reason for this caution is that there is a “risk of arbitrary enforcement of local laws.” The Chinese government has adopted restrictive measures in Shanghai and other major Chinese cities as a result of an increase in COVID-19 instances.

The Canadian government indicated that these actions include the closure of residential complexes, schools, and businesses, as well as the suspension of public transit.

Peru

The Canadian government issued a travel warning for Peru on April 27, 2022, citing “high levels of crime, as well as social unrest and strikes that may erupt throughout the country.”

Avoid non-essential travel to Peru’s border regions with Colombia and Ecuador, as well as regional areas such as the districts of Kimbiri, Pichari, and Vilcabamba in the province of La Convención in the department of Cuzco.

Cuzco and Machu Picchu, fortunately for visitors to Peru, are unaffected and are not included in the regional travel advisories.

Belgium

Due to the possibility of terrorism, Canada is advising Travellers to avoid Belgium. If Canadian visitors want to visit this European country, the federal government advises them to exercise “extreme care.”

Pickpocketing and purse snatching are prevalent petty crimes, especially in major tourist areas and on public transit.

Turkey

The Canadian government issued a travel warning for Turkey on May 2, 2022, “because to the potential of terrorist attacks and the prospect of demonstrations throughout the nation.”

The government is alerting travelers to avoid all travel to areas of Turkey that border Syria and to avoid non-essential travel to regional areas such as Batman, Bitlis, Hakkari, Kilis, Siirt, and Mardin, to name a few.

United Arab Emirates

Due to serious terrorism risks, the Canadian government has issued a travel warning for the United Arab Emirates. While Canadians are still permitted to go to the UAE, the federal government cautions them to do so with “extreme care.”

In addition to regional concerns, Canada has said unequivocally that the UAE is a terrorist target. “Enhanced security measures are in place,” the ministry stated, “and Emirati authorities may enhance them at any time.”

Ecuador

The Government of Canada has issued a travel warning for Ecuador as of April 30, 2022, due to high levels of crime. Canadians who intend to go to Ecuador should exercise “extreme care in light of regional cautions,” according to the ministry.

Canada has issued a travel warning for the northern regions of Ecuador, as well as the areas bordering Colombia.

Violence and criminality are apparently widespread throughout Ecuador, to the point where the president has declared a 60-day state of emergency in Guayas, Manab, and Esmeraldas, effective April 29, 2022.

India

Canada has issued a travel warning for India as of May 13, 2022, “due to the danger of terrorist acts across the country.”

Canadian travelers should avoid non-essential travel to regions of northeastern India, as well as any travel in the Union Territory of Jammu and Kashmir and border areas with Pakistan, according to the federal government.

According to the Indian government, “The bulk of terrorist acts in India are carried out by Maoist extreme militants known as Naxalites. Within the zones of concern, these organizations are mainly situated in rural and woodland locations “As a result, you should avoid these places throughout your stay.
