Muiz Banire, a former Commissioner for Special Duties, Transportation, and Environment in Lagos State, has stated that he will not support both his former boss, Bola Tinubu, and Nigeria’s Vice-President, Prof. Yemi Osinbajo, for the APC presidential ticket in 2023.
Banire, who was previously the APC’s National Legal Adviser, stated that he has no objection to both men’s ambitions because they are within their rights. Tinubu, who has proclaimed his desire to run for president, and Osinbajo, who has been silent on his presidential ambitions, are both elderly, according to him.
“Apart from the purported declaration at the Villa in which he has always said he only came to inform the President but I am still doing consultations, I am not aware, as far as I am concerned, that he is contesting as at now that you are talking, I’m not sure,” Banire said in a recent interview with radio now.
“If you ask me, you may be assured that I will always support the younger generation. For obvious reasons, I like the younger ones.”
Asked if Osinbajo falls to his category of the younger ones, he said “If you go by my own threshold, he (Osinbajo) probably would not qualify too because I am of the view, just like Afe Babalola, that 60-year mark should be the threshold.”
