Nigeria receives 1,936,050 doses of J&J COVID-19 vaccine from EU countries

The European Union has sent 1,936,050 doses of Johnson & Johnson’s COVID-19 vaccine to Nigeria.

Finland, Greece, and Slovenia are the EU countries responsible for the supplies, and more are expected to arrive in Nigeria in the coming weeks, according to government officials.

Last year, the European Union pledged to provide vaccinations to African countries through the World Health Organization’s (WHO) COVAX project, ensuring that Covid vaccines reach some of the world’s poorest people.

The dosages were “part of a global contribution of over 20 million J&J doses from EU member states to Nigeria,” according to the EU ambassador to Nigeria, Samuela Isopi, who added that more will come in the following weeks.

The Executive Director of Nigeria’s National Primary Health Care Development Agency (NPHCDA), Faisal Shuaib, remarked of the EU vaccine contributions, “This batch of vaccinations will expire in August 2023. As a result, we have plenty of time to administer before that time.”

“At the time, Nigeria possesses 12,916,450 doses of the Johnson & Johnson vaccine in the nation.”
