12 Signs of Low Testosterone You May Not Know About

Low testosterone levels in men are prevalent as they age. Symptoms might be modest, but if they interfere with your daily lifestyle or expectations, get help.

12 Signs of Low Testosterone Levels

1. Low libido

Testosterone is important in se#ual desire, also known as libido. Some people may suffer a decrease in sex drive as they age, but those with low testosterone are likely to see a more dramatic decrease.

2. Difficulty getting and keeping an erection

Testosterone helps to get and sustain an erection. It instructs brain receptors to create nitric oxide, a substance that aids in the initiation of a sequence of chemical events required for an erection to occur.

When testosterone levels are too low, it may be difficult to achieve an erection before intercourse or to have spontaneous erections, like during sleep.

However, evidence on whether testosterone replacement treatment may successfully cure erectile dysfunction is equivocal. A 2016 assessment of trials on the effectiveness of testosterone in men with erection problems found that roughly half showed no improvement with testosterone therapy.

Other medical issues can also induce erectile dysfunction. These are some examples:

  • Diabetes
  • elevated blood pressure
  • high cholesterol,
  • Depression,
  • Stress and Anxiety,
  • Smoking and alcohol consumption can also worsen this.

3. Severe hot flushes

Hot flashes might be an indication of low testosterone. This might seem like a sudden surge of heat. You may also have excessive sweating, skin reddening, and nighttime sweats.

4. Loss of Hair

Testosterone is involved in a variety of bodily activities, including hair formation. Balding is a normal part of the aging process for many men, and while it can be inherited, individuals with low testosterone may also lose body and facial hair.

5. Tiredness

Males with low testosterone may experience acute weariness and a loss of vitality. If you’re chronically exhausted despite getting enough sleep or find it difficult to get inspired to exercise, you may have low testosterone.

6. Decrease in Muscular Mass

Males with low testosterone may experience a reduction in muscular mass, as testosterone aids in muscle growth. According to a 2016 study, testosterone impacts muscle mass but not necessarily strength or function.

7. Increase In Body Fat

Males with low testosterone levels may gain weight or develop gynecomastia, or enlarged breast tissue. Gynecomastia can arise when the body’s testosterone and estrogen levels are out of balance.

8. Lesser Bone Mass

Many people connect osteoporosis with women, but men with low testosterone can also have bone loss. Because testosterone aids in the production and strengthening of bone, guys with low testosterone, particularly older men, may have decreased bone volume and be more prone to bone fractures.

9. Mood Swings

Males with low testosterone levels may experience mood swings. Because testosterone affects numerous physical processes in the body, it can also affect mood and mental function.

10. Memory Weakness

With aging, both testosterone levels and cognitive skills, notably memory, drop. As a result, experts believe that reduced testosterone levels may lead to worse memory.

A 2019 analysis of research found that testosterone supplementation is associated with enhanced cognition in older men with low testosterone. However, the impact may be minor.

A 2017 research on testosterone supplementation, however, found no improvement in memory in 493 men with low testosterone levels who took testosterone.

11. Smaller Penis and Testicles

Because testosterone is required by the body to build the penis and testicles, low testosterone levels may contribute to a disproportionately smaller penis or testicles. Other disorders and events can also result in a smaller penis and testicles. They include;

  • hypogonadism
  • undescended testicles
  • prostate surgery
  • Peyronie’s syndrome
  • aging

12. Low Blood Count

According to a 2017 study, low testosterone is associated with an increased risk of anemia. When the researchers gave testosterone gel to anemic men with low testosterone, their blood counts improved compared to individuals who received a placebo.

Anemia can cause the following symptoms:

  • difficulty concentrating
  • dizziness
  • leg cramps
  • difficulty in sleeping
  • Fast heart rate

Help is a few steps away. Don’t die in silence. Be your best always.
