Goodluck Jonathan’s name missing as APC present names of 23 presidential hopefuls for screening

Former President Goodluck Jonathan is not on the presidential aspirants list expected to be screened by the APC.

Recall that in April 2022, supporters besieged his Abuja residence to ask him to contest the 2023 presidential election. Goodluck Jonathan had, however, not given a definite response to date.

“You are calling me to come and declare for the next election. I cannot tell you I am declaring. The political process is ongoing. Just watch out,” he had said.

Days after, a northern coalition bought the APC presidential expression of interest and nomination forms for him. Again, the former president did not give an affirming response to the act. Moreover, he denied approving the purchase of the forms.

Despite persistent conjecture, the former president has yet to make a firm comment on whether he would run for re-election.

The APC’s spokesperson, Felix Morka, stated that 28 presidential forms had been acquired. He stated that three individuals — Chris Ngige, Minister of Labour, Timipre Sylva, Minister of State for Petroleum, and Godwin Emefiele, Governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) — failed to submit their forms.

Forms were also purchased for Akinwumi Adesina, the president of the African Development Bank (AfDB). However, Adesina had said he was not interested in contesting.

Below are the names of the presidential hopefuls for screening as listed by APC.
