President of the United States, Joe Biden has delegated complete authority to his Vice President Harris to take over as the country’s leader. This is in response to his requirement for sedation during a regular medical procedure.

Biden wrote to the President Pro Tempore of the United States Senate, Patrick Leahy, saying, “Today I shall undergo a routine medical procedure needing anesthesia.” Given the current circumstances, I have decided to temporarily delegate the rights and duties of the office of President of the United States to the Vice President during the process and recuperation time.

“In accordance with the provisions of Section 3 of the 25th Amendment to the United States Constitution, this letter shall constitute my written declaration that I am currently unable to discharge the powers and duties of the office of President of the United States. Pursuant to Section 3, the Vice President shall discharge those powers and duties as Acting President until I transmit to you a written declaration that I am able to resume the discharge of those powers and duties.”

With the transfer of powers to the Vice President, Harris becomes the first woman in US history to function as President.
