The Chairman of the National Peace Committee (NPC), Gen. Abdulsalami Abubakar, has praised the people of Anambra for the peaceful conduct of the Nov. 6 gubernatorial election.

Prof. Charles Soludo, the newly elected governor-elect, was also congratulated by the previous Head of State.

In a statement issued on Friday, Abubakar stated that the peaceful conduct of the election despite prior predictions of doom enhanced the country’s tradition of peaceful elections.

“I especially applaud the people of Anambra for the manner in which they handled themselves during the election, leading up to the release of the election results,” he stated.

“Throughout the election, you demonstrated unparalleled patience, courage, decorum, and sacrifice in casting your ballots and contributing to Nigeria’s growing tradition of peaceful elections.”

“Regardless of previous stories of dread, fear, stress, and worry, you have once again shown to Nigerians that goodwill always triumphs over evil.”

“Nigerians applaud your behaviour and demonstration of patriotism and devotion to democratic ideas, which is worthy of emulation.”

Abubakar also praised INEC, political parties, security forces, and other stakeholders for the election’s peaceful conduct.
