Godwin Emefiele, the Governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN), has praised smallholder farmers for assembling the “single greatest rice pyramid ever created in Nigeria’s history.”

Emefiele announced this on Tuesday in Abuja, the nation’s capital, during the introduction of one million bags of rice paddy arranged as pyramids.

It is in accordance with the present administration’s vow to provide food security in the country, he claims.

Despite the obstacles of recent years, including as insurgency and banditry, Emefiele said the farmers remained resilient, producing beyond self-sufficiency.

The giant rice pyramid being shown represent paddy rice submitted as repayment of loans by the Rice Farmers Association of Nigeria (RIFAN) for the dry and wet seasons of 2020 and 2021.

He went on to say that the event represents farmers’ efforts to commit to loan payback through crop submission, ensuring the Program’s long-term viability.
