Dino Melaye declared Chairman of BoT at PDP support groups

Dino Melaye, a former senator from Kogi West, has been named Chairman of the Board of Trustees (BoT) of All Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) Support Groups. 

“Appointment as chairman board of Trustees All PDP support groups,” Melaye wrote on his verified social media accounts on Thursday, while announcing his appointment.

After months of political wrangling with Kogi State Governor Yahaya Bello, Dino Melaye switched to the All Progressives Congress (APC) in 2015 but returned to the PDP in the run-up to 2019 elections. He chaired the Senate Committee on the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) in Abuja. In addition, the Chairman of the Senate Committee on Aviation in Nigeria.

Dino Melaye ran for governor of Kogi State in a gubernatorial election that took place on November 16, 2019. On September 3, 2019, he lost his bid for governor in the primary election, finishing third with 70 votes behind Engr. Musa Wada, who received 748 votes. 

Governor Bello is expected to step down in 2023, and the controversial politician hopes to succeed him. Already, his supporters have begun canvassing support for him, whilst distributing leaflets.  

Melaye is also putting mechanisms in place and has expressed his intention to his party’s leaders. In Kogi, there have been closed-door meetings and negotiations with political bigwigs.
