Prof Isa Ali Ibrahim Pantami, the Minister of Communications and Digital Economy has announced that Nigeria will be launching a new communication satellite (Sat 2) into orbit this year.

Pantami disclosed this during a one-day working visit and interaction with the personnel of the Nigerian Communications Satellite in Abuja on Monday, saying he had obtained President Muhammadu Buhari’s agreement to acquire another communications satellite for the country.

According to the minister, the new satellite would improve the nation’s satellite communications capability as well as the economy. He also revealed that he had gone further to lobby the Minister of Finance to ensure that this is included in the 2022 budget.

Pantami, who informed the company’s employees that the agency’s innovation was unsatisfactory and needed to be improved, charged them with turning the institution around in order to justify the suspension of the proposed NIGCOMSAT privatization plan.

“It is a difficult task to revive an institution and make it very successful, that you must make. The challenge of reviving NIGCOMSAT is not just a necessity but an obligation for all the staff,” he added.
