Foods and Drugs that causes erectile dysfunction

Erectile dysfunction (ED) is the inability to obtain or maintain a hard adequate erection for sexual intercourse.

It is sometimes referred to as impotence, however, this phrase is becoming less popular.  

Erectile dysfunction is also a common health condition among men. In fact, over 70% of the men with ED in a poll conducted felt they were letting their spouses down. Also, more than 40% reported their partners felt they could no longer initiate sex.  

Men’s emotions of self-consciousness and humiliation frequently also cause them to conceal their condition from their relationships. 

What you eat usually has an impact on your sexual life, in the same way, it can also have an impact on your health. 

ED is therefore regarded as difficulty obtaining or maintaining a hard enough erection for intercourse.

However, it is not uncommon for a man to experience erection issues from time to time.

Erectile dysfunction that is progressing or occurring on a regular basis with sex is not normal and should be treated.

Erectile dysfunction can take place when the blood flow in the penis is restricted or nerves are damaged. Stress or emotional pains can also be a reason for erectile dysfunction. 

An early warning sign of a more serious condition includes atherosclerosis (the clogging of arteries), heart disease, high blood pressure, or diabetes-related high blood sugar.

Foods that may cause erection problems

Although one of the foods you eat is unlikely to cause erectile dysfunction, an unhealthy diet might significantly contribute to it.  Alcohol, white bread, pizza, sugar canned food and drinks are some of the food to avoid. Some proteins are also known to cause erectile dysfunction, such as dairy, soy, Farmed fish and processed meats.

Your sexual health is as important as your general health. Therefore, stop the excessive intake of the listed foods and go for ones that will help you sexually. 

Drugs that may cause erection problems

Many medications and recreational substances might have an impact on a man’s sexual desire and performance. 

Therefore, If you suspect that a medicine is impairing your sexual performance, consult your doctor.

Never discontinue any medication without first consulting with your healthcare professional.

Antihistamine medicine

  • Cimetidine (Tagamet)
  • Dimenhydrinate (Dramamine)

High blood pressure medicines and diuretics

  • Atenolol (Tenormin)
  • Bethanidine
  • Bumetanide (Bumex)
  • Captopril (Capoten)

Parkinson disease medicines

  • Benztropine (Cogentin)
  • Biperiden (Akineton)

Chemotherapy and hormonal medicines

  • Antiandrogens
  • Busulfan (Myleran)
  • Cyclophosphamide (Cytoxan)

Popular Treatments for Erectile Dysfunction

Since the little blue pill made it acceptable to discuss, the number of men diagnosed with erectile dysfunction has surged.

However, the number of therapy alternatives has grown as well.
