Katsina senator announces resignation from APC to PDP

Ahmed Babba Kaita, the senator representing Katsina North Senatorial District has officially announced his resignation from ruling All Progressives Congress.

Mr. Babba-Kaita announced his decision to join the opposition People’s Democratic Party on Wednesday.

The senator’s defection put an end to predictions on Katsina’s local radio stations and on social media that he might switch political parties ahead of 2023 elections.

Mr. Babba-Kaita was spotted visiting the PDP secretariat in Katsina on Tuesday afternoon.

The party and the senator however denied he was there to defect.

He also stated that the PDP symbolizes what he believes in.

“Senator Ahmad Babba Kaita is not a politician who jumps on the bandwagon”.

“His exceptional and powerful representation in the Nigerian Senate is admired by everybody”

“He also has major, visible benefits on infrastructure and human capital development across the state’s three Senatorial zones”.

“There is still opportunity for improvement”. He added.

“The fresh page from the decision to join PDP represents the ideals of representativeness in the mandate, goodwill and an even more determined desire and opportunity to provide comfort to people”.

The Senator also accused the state’s governor, Aminu Masari, of failing to hold local government elections for more than six years.

He said that the governor ignored other stakeholders, violated the foundations of democracy, and also despised a fair playing field in party operations.

“The senator and the governor have been at odds”.

Mr. Babba–Kaita declined to honor the governor’s invitation to Katsina National Assembly members to “address serious concerns” impacting the state in January.

According to the senator, “the governor did not invite them for all those years when there were issues to discuss”

He also added that the governor is attempting to play politics with them.
