UK Absent at Miss World pageant for first time in history

For the first time in the pageant’s 37-year history, it appears that the United Kingdom will not be represented at Ms. World, owing to its candidate’s natal connection to Syria.

Leen Clive’s application for a US visa was denied, preventing her from competing in the seven-day pageant in Las Vegas. Her husband and six-month-old kid, on the other hand, were given permission. Clive, a trainee NHS doctor, feels she was denied entrance because she was born in Damascus, since the only difference between her and her family’s applications is that she was born in Damascus.

In 2013, she escaped Syria with only the clothes on her back and has subsequently become a British citizen.

‘Visa records are classified under US law; consequently, we cannot disclose the contents of individual visa cases,’ US authorities said in a statement.
